Job Description:
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for advanced STEM researchers and PhD-level subject-matter experts experienced in rigorous scientific reasoning, technical task design, research-grade problem solving, solution evaluation, and structured feedback across quantitative and scientific domains.
This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on STEM research task design, scientific and technical reasoning evaluation, expert solution review, domain-specific edge case analysis, rubric development, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will help design, solve, and evaluate challenging research-grade tasks across STEM fields.
Key Responsibilities

STEM Task Design & Scientific Reasoning
- Design challenging, rigorous tasks that test expert-level scientific and technical reasoning
- Surface edge cases, ambiguities, frontier problems, and domain-specific knowledge gaps within STEM fields
- Write accurate, well-reasoned solutions that demonstrate strong methodological judgment and technical depth
- Create task materials across scientific, mathematical, computational, engineering, or analytical domains
Solution Evaluation & Technical Feedback
- Evaluate STEM tasks and solutions produced by AI systems or other contributors
- Assess correctness, reasoning quality, methodological soundness, and domain-specific rigor
- Identify weak assumptions, incomplete derivations, flawed technical reasoning, or unsupported conclusions
- Provide clear written technical feedback grounded in deep subject-matter expertise
Evaluation Frameworks & Review Consistency
- Develop evaluation frameworks and rubrics for assessing scientific reasoning quality
- Support consistent review standards across STEM domains and task types
- Collaborate with other subject-matter experts to improve accuracy, clarity, and consistency
- Maintain high standards for scientific rigor, reproducibility, and written explanation
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have:
- PhD, current doctoral enrollment, or equivalent research track in a STEM discipline
- 3+ years of research, academic, or industry experience in a primary STEM domain
- Demonstrated technical expertise in at least one area such as computational modeling, laboratory methods, data analysis, statistical inference, programming, or equivalent scientific methods
- Ability to design and evaluate complex research-grade tasks with strong technical judgment
- Prior experience with data annotation, labeling, evaluation, or human feedback collection as a strong plus
- Experience with AI systems, LLMs, or agentic workflows as a plus
- Strong written communication skills and ability to explain complex scientific or technical concepts clearly
- Ability to commit approximately 40 hours per week during weekdays depending on engagement scope
Educational Background
- PhD, doctoral enrollment, or equivalent research experience in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or another STEM discipline is highly relevant
- Academic, research, or industry background in scientific problem solving, technical evaluation, computational work, lab-based research, or quantitative analysis may be especially valuable
- Equivalent advanced research experience may be considered depending on project needs
Nice to Have
- Experience developing benchmark tasks, technical rubrics, scientific evaluation materials, or research-grade problem sets
- Familiarity with scientific software, Python, R, MATLAB, statistical tools, modeling environments, or computational notebooks
- Background in scientific pedagogy, graduate-level teaching, exam design, or peer review
- Research publications, technical reports, open-source scientific contributions, or advanced domain-specific project work
- Comfort working across interdisciplinary STEM topics and reviewing complex technical reasoning
