Job Description:

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for cybersecurity and systems programming professionals experienced in vulnerability analysis, security classification, low-level code review, attack-pattern recognition, and technical evaluation.

This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on reviewing technical content for security vulnerabilities and improving structured threat-detection workflows. Selected professionals will apply their cybersecurity and programming expertise to identify vulnerability patterns, classify potential risks, solve realistic security problems, and evaluate technical materials with accuracy and clear reasoning.

Key Responsibilities

Vulnerability Analysis & Classification

  • Review technical content and code for potential security vulnerabilities
  • Identify patterns associated with common attack vectors, insecure implementations, and software weaknesses
  • Classify findings using recognised frameworks such as OWASP, CVE, CWE, or comparable security standards
  • Distinguish between genuine vulnerabilities, implementation defects, and low-risk technical issues

Secure Code & Systems Review

  • Analyze code written in C, C++, Java, or other systems-oriented programming languages
  • Review memory handling, input validation, access controls, data flow, and error-management practices
  • Identify issues such as buffer errors, injection risks, unsafe dependencies, and insecure configurations
  • Explain how technical weaknesses could affect system confidentiality, integrity, or availability

Security Problem Development

  • Create, solve, and review challenging cybersecurity problems with practical real-world relevance
  • Develop examples involving web security, systems security, vulnerability detection, and attack-pattern recognition
  • Produce clear reference solutions and structured explanations
  • Assess technical problems for correctness, difficulty, realism, and security relevance

Technical Evaluation & Quality Review

  • Evaluate security-related outputs for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate risk classification
  • Identify missed threats, unsupported conclusions, and incorrect vulnerability assessments
  • Apply consistent review standards across different technical scenarios
  • Collaborate asynchronously with other cybersecurity and programming specialists
  • Document findings clearly in written English

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • At least 2 years of professional programming, cybersecurity, application security, or systems engineering experience
  • Practical experience with C, C++, Java, or comparable programming languages
  • Familiarity with vulnerability-classification frameworks and security taxonomies
  • Strong understanding of web security, software vulnerabilities, and common attack vectors
  • Excellent attention to detail and pattern-recognition ability
  • Confidence reviewing unfamiliar technical materials independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Current location in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand

Educational Background

  • A degree in cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, information security, or a related technical field is helpful
  • Professional experience in secure software development, vulnerability research, penetration testing, or application security is highly relevant
  • Equivalent hands-on experience through technical projects, security research, or open-source contributions may also be considered
  • Industry certifications or specialised security training may be valuable

Nice to Have

  • Experience with secure code review, vulnerability research, or software assurance
  • Familiarity with OWASP Top 10, CVEs, CWEs, threat modelling, or security testing methodologies
  • Knowledge of memory safety, operating systems, networking, or low-level software behaviour
  • Experience with static analysis, dynamic analysis, fuzzing, debugging, or reverse engineering
  • Background in web application security, systems security, or exploit analysis
  • Previous involvement in technical benchmarking, structured evaluation, or security-focused quality review
  • Ability to pass an enhanced background check

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply cybersecurity and programming expertise to structured remote project work
  • Contribute to high-quality vulnerability analysis and threat-classification workflows
  • Work on realistic problems involving secure code, attack patterns, and technical risk assessment
  • Collaborate asynchronously with experienced professionals across security and systems engineering
  • Participate in flexible, high-impact assignments with competitive hourly compensation

Contract Details

  • Independent contractor role
  • Fully remote with flexible scheduling
  • Eligible professionals may be based in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand
  • Initial paid work trial with potential extension into a project of approximately two months
  • Competitive rates between $65–$85 per hour depending on expertise and project scope
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
  • The selection process may include a short interview and technical questionnaire
  • Up to one hour of onboarding and screening time may be compensated for selected professionals
  • An enhanced background check may be required
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on scope and performance
  • Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
