Hybrid | Acting & Animation Evaluation Consultant — $50–$80/hour
Job Description:
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced entertainment and animation professionals with expertise in character performance, acting evaluation, micro-expression analysis, emotional timing, physical fidelity, performance transfer review, and visual evaluation workflows.
This role supports current and upcoming hybrid consulting opportunities focused on acting and animation performance evaluation, performance transfer assessment, benchmark curation, reviewer rubric development, visual sample comparison, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will help define what strong performance transfer looks like, evaluate whether emotion and physical choices are preserved, and shape the criteria used to assess model-generated outputs.

Performance Evaluation Standards
- Define clear criteria for when an actor's original performance has been captured well
- Assess emotional resonance, timing, facial expression, body movement, and physical fidelity
- Identify where current evaluation approaches miss subtle performance details
- Translate nuanced visual and acting observations into precise evaluation language
Benchmark Curation & Review Frameworks
- Identify strong examples of performances that are easier to capture and examples that are meaningfully difficult
- Help curate benchmark materials that test emotional, physical, and character-performance fidelity
- Shape reviewer profiles, expertise requirements, and scoring rubrics for large-scale human evaluation
- Develop evaluation templates that capture micro-expressions, emotional beats, and subtle performance choices
Expert Collaboration & Visual Analysis
- Collaborate with other subject-matter experts to keep evaluations consistent and accurate
- Review visual outputs and compare them against original performances
- Generate or assess visual samples using AI tools and creative workflows where required
- Provide clear written feedback that supports reviewer training, rubric refinement, and quality improvement
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have:
- 7–10 years of professional experience in the entertainment, film, animation, or performance industry
- Proven track record on 2 or more professional films
- Specialization in at least one of the following areas: character animation, character technical design, acting teaching or coaching for film or theater, or director of photography work
- Meticulous eye for micro-expressions, emotional beats, body language, timing, and the subtleties that make a human performance feel authentic
- Familiarity with AI tools and creative workflows, including the ability to generate visual samples for testing and comparison
- Ability to translate complex visual details into clear, precise language for captions, rubrics, and evaluation templates
- Ability to attend occasional onsite working sessions in Playa Vista, CA or New York, NY once or twice per month
Educational Background
- Formal degree requirements may vary depending on project needs
- Professional background in film, animation, acting, cinematography, character performance, theater, visual storytelling, or related creative fields is highly relevant
- Industry credits, professional film work, animation studio experience, coaching background, or character-performance evaluation experience may be especially valuable
Nice to Have
- Experience with character animation focused on human or character performance
- Experience evaluating acting choices, facial expressions, body mechanics, timing, emotional continuity, or performance capture
- Background in performance direction, animation review, shot review, acting coaching, facial animation, or character technical design
- Comfort working with GenAI visual tools, creative comparison workflows, or AI-assisted sample generation
- Reliable access to a 4K-resolution monitor for precise visual review
